Known Weak Spots, Model by Model

Cars and Crossovers: Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Highlander

Oil Burning on the 2.4-Liter Four-Cylinder The 2AZ-FE engine in many 2007 to 2011 Camrys and RAV4s is known for consuming oil as piston rings wear, sometimes as much as a quart every thousand miles. Owners often don't notice until the oil light comes on. If your Toyota is from that era, check the dipstick between oil changes, and if the level keeps dropping, an engine evaluation will tell you how far it's progressed.

Water Pump Leaks on the V6 Toyota's 3.5-liter V6, found in the Camry, Highlander, Sienna, and older RAV4s, commonly develops water pump leaks as it ages. A sweet coolant smell, pink crust around the front of the engine, or a slowly dropping reservoir are the usual signs. It's a routine repair when caught early and a much bigger one if the engine overheats.

Trucks: Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner, Sequoia

Frame Rust Pennsylvania road salt and Toyota truck frames don't mix well. Mid-2000s Tacomas were the subject of a major frame corrosion campaign, and Tundras and Sequoias from the same period had their own rust problems. Even newer trucks benefit from an underbody inspection after a few salty winters. We'll put yours on the lift and show you what we find, because frame rust is much easier to manage when caught early.

Brakes and Suspension Under Load Toyota trucks get worked hard, and towing and hauling wear out brake pads, rotors, and front-end parts faster. A truck that pulls, clunks, or takes longer to stop is due for a brake inspection.

Hybrids: Prius, Camry Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid

Clogged Hybrid Battery Cooling Toyota's hybrid batteries are cooled by a small fan that pulls cabin air through a vent, usually near the rear seat. When pet hair and dust clog that intake, the battery runs hot and wears out sooner. Cleaning it takes a few minutes and costs little, and it's one of the best things you can do for an older hybrid.

The 12-Volt Battery and Electrical Gremlins A hybrid still needs a regular 12-volt battery to power up. When that battery weakens, the car can throw a confusing string of warning lights or refuse to start. Our electrical diagnostics test it properly instead of assuming the worst about the expensive hybrid battery.

Catalytic Converter Theft The Prius has long been a top target for catalytic converter thieves. If yours suddenly sounds like a race car, that's likely why. We can replace the converter so the car passes its PA state inspection and emissions test, and we can talk you through anti-theft shields.

Keeping a Toyota on the Road for the Long Haul

Toyota maintenance isn't complicated, but it adds up over hundreds of thousands of miles. The services our Toyota customers book most often are oil changes, tune-ups, brake work, and underbody inspections on trucks. A tune-up at the factory interval, with fresh plugs, filters, and a thorough once-over, is often what separates a Toyota that reaches 250,000 miles from one that doesn't.
