Chevrolet Service & Repair in

Glenolden, PA | Briarcliffe Auto Service

Chevrolet has been a cornerstone of American automotive history since 1911. Whether you drive a reliable Malibu, a rugged Silverado, a family-friendly Equinox, or a powerful Camaro, Chevy offers something for just about everyone. These vehicles are built to work hard, handle daily commutes, and take on weekend adventures, all while remaining affordable to own and maintain.

That versatility means Chevrolets show up in our shop with a wide range of needs. A work truck that hauls heavy loads all week requires different attention than a Cruze used for commuting. Our technicians understand the full Chevy lineup and know how to keep each model running strong, whether it's a base-model economy car or a fully loaded SUV.

Briarcliffe Auto Service has been part of the Glenolden community since 1987. We've worked on generations of Chevrolet vehicles over the years and have seen firsthand what these cars and trucks need to stay dependable mile after mile.

Common Chevrolet Problems We See

Chevrolets are generally solid vehicles, but every brand has weak points. Here are the issues that most frequently bring Chevy owners through our doors:

Active Fuel Management Lifter Failures Many Chevrolet V8 engines, including those in the Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, and Camaro, use Active Fuel Management (AFM) to improve fuel economy by deactivating cylinders under light load. Unfortunately, this system is known for causing lifter failures and excessive oil consumption. Symptoms include a ticking or knocking noise from the engine, misfires, and check engine lights. Repairing AFM-related lifter damage is a significant job, and some owners choose to have the system disabled entirely to prevent future problems.

Transmission Shudder Chevrolet's 8-speed and 10-speed automatic transmissions found in many newer Silverados, Colorados, Equinoxes, and Traverses can develop a shudder or vibration during light acceleration, typically between 25 and 50 mph. This often feels like driving over rumble strips. The issue is usually related to the torque converter and may require a fluid flush, software update, or more extensive repair, depending on severity.

Intake Manifold Gasket Leaks Older Chevrolets with the 4.3L, 5.0L, and 5.7L Vortec engines are prone to intake manifold gasket failures. Coolant can leak externally or, worse, internally into the engine oil. Warning signs include coolant loss, overheating, a rough idle, or a sweet smell from the engine compartment. This repair shouldn't be postponed, coolant contaminating the oil leads to expensive internal engine damage.

Electrical Issues and Instrument Cluster Problems Many Chevrolet trucks and SUVs from the early to mid-2000s, including the Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban, experience instrument cluster failures. Gauges may read incorrectly, stick in place, or stop working altogether. Faulty stepper motors inside the cluster are usually to blame. Additionally, various electrical problems including faulty door lock actuators, power window failures, and malfunctioning sensors are common as these vehicles age.

Steering and Suspension Wear Chevrolet trucks and SUVs see a lot of hard use, and steering and suspension components wear accordingly. Pitman arms, idler arms, tie rod ends, ball joints, and wheel hub bearings are all frequent replacement items on higher-mileage Silverados, Tahoes, and Suburbans. If your steering feels loose, your truck wanders on the highway, or you hear clunking over bumps, these parts likely need inspection.
