Ford Service & Repair in

Glenolden, PA | Briarcliffe Auto Service

Few names carry as much weight in American automotive history as Ford. Since Henry Ford revolutionized manufacturing with the Model T in 1908, Ford has remained one of the most trusted names on the road. The F-150 has been America's best-selling truck for decades, the Mustang continues to define American muscle, and models like the Explorer, Escape, and Bronco keep families and adventurers moving every day.

Ford vehicles are built to work hard and last, but they still need regular maintenance and occasional repairs to perform their best. Whether you rely on your F-150 to earn a living or count on your Explorer to get the kids to school safely, keeping up with service is essential. Our technicians have extensive experience with the entire Ford lineup and understand what these vehicles need at every stage of ownership.

Briarcliffe Auto Service has been a trusted name in the Glenolden community since 1987. We've serviced Fords of every generation, from older Crown Victorias still logging miles to brand-new Broncos fresh off the dealer lot.

Common Ford Problems We See

Ford manufactures millions of vehicles, and certain issues have become well-known over the years. Here's what most frequently brings Ford owners into our shop:

Spark Plug and Ignition Coil Failures Ford's modular V8 engines and EcoBoost engines are prone to spark plug and ignition coil problems. The 3-valve 5.4L V8 found in 2004-2008 F-150s is notorious for spark plugs that seize in the cylinder head and break during removal, a problem that requires special extraction tools and experience. EcoBoost engines, while generally reliable, can foul plugs and wear out coils faster than expected, especially with heavy use. Misfires, rough running, and reduced fuel economy are common symptoms.

Transmission Concerns Ford's 6-speed automatic transmissions, particularly the 6R80 in trucks and the 6F35 in cars and crossovers, can develop harsh shifting, shuddering, and delayed engagement over time. Keeping up with fluid changes helps extend transmission life. Some older Fords with the 4R70W and 5R55 transmissions develop torque converter and solenoid issues that cause similar symptoms. If your Ford isn't shifting smoothly, early diagnosis often prevents more expensive repairs.

EcoBoost Turbo and Cooling Issues Ford's EcoBoost engines deliver impressive power and efficiency, but the turbochargers and intercooler systems require attention. Carbon buildup, coolant leaks at the turbo coolant lines, and intercooler condensation issues can all affect performance and reliability. The 1.5L and 1.6L EcoBoost engines in the Escape have experienced coolant intrusion problems that can cause serious internal damage. Monitoring coolant levels and addressing leaks immediately is critical.

Water Pump Failures Many Ford vehicles, especially those with the 3.5L and 3.7L V6 engines, use an internal water pump driven by the timing chain. When this pump fails, coolant can leak into the engine oil, causing catastrophic damage. Unlike traditional external water pumps that leak visibly, internal pump failures often go unnoticed until significant harm is done. Regular coolant checks and watching for any signs of contamination can help catch problems early.

Blend Door Actuator Problems A common complaint from Ford owners involves climate control systems that blow hot air on one side and cold on the other, or make clicking noises behind the dashboard. Faulty blend door actuators are usually responsible. While not a safety issue, this problem is annoying—especially during Pennsylvania winters and summers when you need consistent heating and cooling.
