Tesla Service & Repair in Glenolden, PA | Briarcliffe Auto Service

A Tesla asks a lot less of its owner than a gas car does. There are no oil changes, no spark plugs, no timing belt, and no transmission fluid, and the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X have become a regular sight on MacDade Boulevard and the Blue Route as a result. A lot of new Tesla owners in Delaware County assume that means the car needs nothing at all. That's where problems start.

An electric car skips the engine maintenance, but it still rides on brakes, tires, suspension, and a climate system, and it still depends on a small 12-volt battery to wake up in the morning. Some of these parts actually wear faster on a Tesla than on a comparable gas car. The weight of the battery pack and the instant torque from the motors see to that.

Our technicians have been servicing whatever pulls into our Ashland Avenue bays since 1987, and today that includes a steady stream of Teslas. We handle the hands-on mechanical work these cars need, so you're not waiting weeks for a service appointment to deal with a squeaky control arm or a set of worn tires.

What a Tesla Still Needs, and Why

Brakes That Rust From Lack of Use Regenerative braking does most of the slowing on a Tesla, which is great for pad life. The downside is that the brakes sit idle for long stretches. On salted Pennsylvania roads, that lets rust build up on rotors and calipers, and the caliper slide pins can start to seize. Tesla itself recommends cleaning and lubricating the calipers every year in cold-weather regions. We make that part of our brake service, along with checking brake fluid condition, which still absorbs moisture whether the car burns gas or not.

Tires That Wear Out Quickly Put a heavy battery pack together with instant acceleration and you get tires that wear noticeably faster than on a similar-size gas car. Many owners are surprised to need a new set before 30,000 miles. Regular rotations help a lot, and when it's time for replacements, our tire repair and replacement service fits tires rated for your Tesla's weight and load.

Alignment and Suspension Wear Model 3 and Model Y owners often report uneven inner-edge tire wear that traces back to alignment. Model S and Model X owners know the creak or clunk of worn front control arms over bumps. Delco potholes don't help either model. A wheel alignment combined with a full suspension check catches both problems before they cost you a set of tires.

The 12-Volt Battery Nobody Thinks About The big battery pack drives the car, but a separate low-voltage battery runs the computers, door handles, and startup system. When it weakens, you'll get a "12V battery needs service" alert or, worse, a car that won't wake up. Our electrical diagnostics test the low-voltage system and track down the power drains that wear it out early.

Heat Pump and AC Complaints Newer Teslas use a heat pump for both heating and cooling, and a weak climate system in January hurts both comfort and range. A clogged cabin air filter, low refrigerant, or a failing component can all be to blame. Our heater and AC service diagnoses the cause and keeps the cabin comfortable year-round.

Where We Fit In, and Where Tesla Does

We handle the wear-and-tear work that keeps a Tesla safe and comfortable, which is most of what a Tesla ever needs. High-voltage battery repairs, drive unit replacement, and software updates stay with Tesla, and we'll tell you plainly when an issue falls in that category. For everything else, you get a local shop, a real person to talk to, and a quicker turnaround than a Service Center booking.

Your Tesla still needs its annual PA safety inspection. Electric vehicles skip the emissions test, but brakes, tires, lights, and suspension all get checked, which is exactly where a neglected Tesla tends to fail. And if your car can't make it to us, our towing service uses a flatbed, which is the only safe way to move a Tesla.

An Independent Option for EV Owners

Tesla ownership has changed how people think about car service. There's no dealer lot down the street, and a Service Center appointment can be booked out further than you'd like when all you need is new tires or a brake cleaning. That's where a trusted independent shop fits in.

We're seeing more electric vehicles every year, from Teslas to EVs built by brands we've worked on for decades, like Chevrolet and Ford. The weight, the regenerative braking, and the electronics change how these cars wear, and we service them with that in mind.

Our shop is on W Ashland Avenue in Glenolden, close to MacDade Boulevard and I-95. Tesla owners reach us from Collingdale, Folsom, Ridley Park, Swarthmore, and across Delaware County.
